No demolition. No consultant. No gemstones. And a whole chapter for people who rent and cannot change a single wall.

“Vastu Without Fear”
Almost everything you have read about Vastu was written to worry you. This handbook takes the opposite position, and says so on the first page:
“Aim for net positive. No home is 100% perfect.”
Get the entrance, kitchen, master bedroom and open centre right — then remedy the rest calmly.
And the remedy it puts above every crystal, pyramid and yantra? Decluttering. Which is free.
The ₹249 you read before, not after
This book does not save you money by being cheap. It saves you money by arriving before the decision.
Indicative Indian renovation costs for context. Actual quotes vary widely by city, contractor and scope.
The kitchen goes in. Plumbing is chased into the wall, the counter is cast, the chimney is ducted out. Three months later someone tells you the fire zone was supposed to be the South-East, and yours is in the North-East.
Nothing about your home is broken. But every option you now have is expensive — because the decision was made before you knew what the direction meant.
| Re-routing kitchen plumbing | ₹40,000 + |
| Breaking & re-casting counter | ₹25,000 + |
| Re-tiling and making good | ₹15,000 + |
| Total, for one room | ≈ ₹80,000 |
Read at the right moment, the same information costs ₹249 and changes nothing but where you put the stove.
What each direction actually governs
Not superstition — sunlight, heat, air and weight. Tap a direction to see what belongs there and what never should.
North-East (Ishanya)
The most sacred zone — clarity, prayer, water
Belongs here: Pooja space, water source, open light-filled corner
Keep out: Toilets, heavy storage, a kitchen, clutter
Your whole home on one grid
The Vastu Purusha Mandala divides any home — house, flat or single room — into nine zones. Everything else in the book hangs off this.
The five principles the whole book rests on
Light
Where the sun falls decides what a room is for. Morning light in the East is why it belongs to health.
Air
Where the air moves decides whether a home feels alive or heavy. Cross-ventilation is Vastu, not decoration.
Heat
Where the heat builds is where fire belongs — the South-East — and where water does not.
Weight
Heavy in the South-West, open in the North-East. That single rule fixes more homes than any object.
The open centre
The Brahmasthan, the middle of the home, stays clear. Nothing heavy, nothing stored, nothing built over.
Thirteen parts, 106 sections
Tap any part to see what is inside it.
Every fix here needs zero construction
The book puts its remedies in strict order, cheapest and most effective first. Objects come last, and only after the free steps are done.
| Tool | What it does | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Sea salt | Absorbs stagnant energy and damp | Toilets and corners — replace weekly |
| Plants (the right kind) | Add life and air, soften sharp corners | North, East and North-East living zones |
| Mirrors | Expand light, visually 'heal' a missing corner | North or East walls — never facing a bed or door |
| Clear quartz | Amplifies light and positive energy | North-East, windowsills, defective corners |
| Metal wind chimes | Break up stuck energy with sound | North-West, West and the entry |
| Camphor / incense | Purify the air and the mood of a room | Whole home, especially in the morning |
You rent. You were told Vastu isn't for you.
Part Eight exists entirely for flats and rented homes. Not one of these needs a landlord's permission, a contractor, or a single rupee of construction.
Fifteen rooms, one at a time
Each room gets its ideal direction, its practical alternative, and what to do when neither is possible.

Main Entrance & Foyer
The single most important placement in the home.

Kitchen
Where fire belongs — and how to cope when yours isn't there.

Master Bedroom
The South-West anchor, and which way the head should point.
Plus living room, kids' room, guest room, pooja space, bathrooms, dining, study, staircase, balcony, utility, water tanks, boundary wall and garden.

Before you decide
Do I have to follow every Vastu rule?
No — and the book says so plainly. Aim for net positive: get the entrance, kitchen, master bedroom and open centre right, then remedy the rest. No home is 100% perfect, and treating that as a failure is exactly the fear this handbook is written against.
I rent. Can I actually use any of this?
Yes, and there is a whole chapter for it. Bed and desk direction, cook stance, pooja placement, plants, lighting, colour and decluttering are all in your control and need no landlord's permission. Not one of them touches a wall.
My kitchen is in the wrong corner and can't move. Now what?
That is exactly what Part Seven is for. For a North-East kitchen the book's own answer is: keep it spotless and well-lit, cook facing East, add a small red or orange element in the South-East corner, and keep water and fire separated. No demolition.
What's the single most powerful remedy?
Decluttering — and it costs nothing. The book puts it at the top of the remedy hierarchy and is blunt about it: an open, clean home fixes more than any object you can buy. Everything else comes after that.
Is an east-facing house the only good one?
No. North, North-East and West facings are also excellent. What matters far more than the facing is the internal layout and the light — which is the part you can usually still influence.
Do I need to buy pyramids, yantras and crystals?
No. The book treats those as optional, faith-based tools that come last, after decluttering, maintenance, light and furniture placement. They are explicitly not a substitute for light, air and cleanliness.
